Terra solar trackers on a French farm: an agricultural case study
Discover how eight Terra solar trackers were integrated on a farm in Meurthe-et-Moselle, with attention to electricity demand and retained land use.

A farm in Meurthe-et-Moselle, France, installed eight Terra trackers to support on-site electricity use. The farm combines arable farming with livestock activity, making both consumption patterns and practical land use central to the design.
Understanding the farm’s demand
The original project account identifies grain drying, heat pumps, ventilation, storage and domestic uses. These activities do not necessarily run at the same time or with the same seasonal pattern.
The objective was to use more locally generated electricity and consider surplus within a collective self-consumption arrangement. The account describes an objective, rather than proving a measured self-consumption rate.
Eight elevated trackers
The reported configuration uses eight Terra structures with 580 Wp modules, described in the project account as approximately 37 kWp overall. The installation was located in a passage area rather than on a cultivated plot.
The layout was designed around the farm’s activities and livestock movement. Its clearances and foundation arrangement are project-specific and should not be treated as standard dimensions for another farm.
Construction and operation
Foundation work, mechanical assembly, trenching, PV equipment and electrical completion formed separate stages. Scheduling depends on the ground, access, staffing and approved configuration. A reported installation duration is not a commitment for a future project.
Maintain the drawings, equipment information and inspection plan after commissioning. Keep working access and protection of electrical components part of ongoing farm management.
Transfer the method, not the forecasts
The original account includes long-term generation and cost estimates. These depend on the assumptions used for that French project and do not establish a universal energy cost or return. Compare current site-specific proposals on a consistent basis.
Read the agricultural planning guide and maintenance guide before preparing a similar enquiry. Local permissions and connection requirements must be checked independently.
